Beeswax Skincare Benefits
Beeswax is produced by the youngest bees; it is a complex mixture of compounds and the colour is dependent on the types of flowers foraged. Bees will eat approx 6 lbs of honey to produce 1 lb of wax which they excrete from abdominal wax scales to create comb.
Man-made ingredients are used in skincare to provide texture, skin feel and to aid retention of moisture. Beeswax is a natural product which also has these benefits.
We use surplus beeswax from our hives making the most of its wonderful skincare properties.
1. Skin protection: Beeswax is a natural barrier protecting skin from environmental irritants and the weather. Beeswax is exceptional because it allows the skin to breathe and doesn’t block pores. Beeswax in lip and hand balms is the natural way to protect skin in winter.
2. Hydration: The natural beeswax barrier helps lock in moisture keeping skin soft and hydrated.
3. Anti-allergenic and anti-inflammatory: Properties of beeswax can help soothe dry, irritated skin making it a perfect skincare ingredient for sensitive skin. Some customers have reported our hand balms and body butters have helped control eczema. Beeswax can also facilitate healing of minor cuts and scrapes.
4.Texture: Using beeswax in soap produces firmer and longer lasting bar with a lovely scent and skin feel.
5. Skin conditioning: Beeswax is known to soften skin, along with its anti-bacterial properties it is a good choice for our foot balm.
Using natural ingredients in our skincare is the basis of our business and adds to the joy of beekeeping throughout the seasons.
